The maritime prison
From September 17, the museum and the Historical Defense Service offer you a selection of documents devoted to a little-known topic: the maritime prison.
From the foundation of the arsenal in 1666, the Navy is equipped with an institution suitable to apply the paintings of the military court. The Prison is first installed in the building occupied today by the Navy Museum before settling in the former powder keg of Martrou, today Conservatoire de musique. Around an extraordinary collection of anthropometric photographs from the end of the nineteenth century, the selection proposes an approach to a judicial, maritime and human history.
From 17 September to 31 December
